THE HEADING
Often, at the very top of a resume, the word "Resume" is
typed, just in case the reader didn't know what it was. For this reason,
the heading is, in my opinion, optional. If you are employed now and
don't want your employer to know of your job search, put "Confidential
Resume" at the top and hope the reader honors it.
Name
This one seems obvious enough, but there are some thing to avoid.
Don't use a nickname - you want to present a professional image.
Address
Don't abbreviate words such as "Street" or Avenue."
Do include your zip code.
Phone numbers
An employer is most likely to phone rather than write you. For this
reason, it is essential that you can be readched, or a message be
taken for you durign the day. |
JOB OBJECTIVE
While you could put together a simple resume without a job objective,
in most cases, it is wise to include it. If possible, avoid using
a narrow job title, but don't try to include everything either.
Your goal is to have a job objective that will not exclude you form
jobs you would consider; however, you must also use wording that does
not sound like you would be willing to do just anything. |
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Recent graduates can put their educational credentials towards the
top of their resume since they represent a more important part of
their experience. But, for more experienced work, your education typically
is placed towards the end of our resume.
The edcuation and training section can also be dropped if it doesn't
help support your job objective or if you don't have the educational
credentials that are typically requred by those seeking the same type
of position.
This is particularly should emphasize the most recent and/or highest
level of education or training that relates to the job. |
ECPERIENCES AND VOLUNTEER HISTORY
This section of your resume provides the details of your work history,
starting with the most recent job. If you have had significant work
history, list each job aling with details of what you accomplished
and any special skill you used.
Emphasize any skill that directily relate to the job objective you
have stated on your resume. Any significant volunteer or military
experience and be treated in the same way as job experience. |
PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS
If you belong to job-related professional groups, it may be worth
mentioning, particulary if you were an officer or were active in some
other way. Mention any accomplishments or awards. |
RECOGNITION INFORMATION
If you have received any formal recognition or awards that support
your job objective, consider mentioning them. You can be put in the
work experience, skills, education, or personal sections. |
PERSONAL INFORMATION
Traditionally, somewhere on a resume things like height, weight, marital
status, hobbies, leisure activities, and other trivia are mentioned.
There are situations where these characteristics or activities doo
help you and, if so, go ahead and use them. If it does not support
your job objective, delete it. |
REFERANCES
It is not necessary to include the name of your referances on a resume.
There are better thing to do with the precious spac. It's not even
necessary to state referance available upon request at the bottom
of your resume, since that is obvious. If an employer wants them,
they know they can ask you for them.
It is helpjul to line up your referances in advance. Pick people who
know your work as an employee, volunteer, or student. |
